[kent-grads] UKC's "College" System.

In 1968-70, most of my social interactions centered about the location (Chemistry building) where I spent most of my time. This was likely also a factor for many other students; in the humanities, my understanding is that the faculty (staff) advisors were located (and/or housed) in the Colleges, so for many students, the particular College building became their 'home base' in a similar way.
Although I lived in Eliot for quite a while (and made several friends there as a result), I have to admit that the allegiances that my particular peer group & I developed toward any given College tended to be centered on the atractiveness of its dining-hall offerings !
When I arrived at UKC, it struck me that the "College" setup was an attempt to recreate, nostalgically, the milieu in which many of the teaching staff had done their own degrees. Tradition without a genuine local history seemed like artifice to me.
